Zendaya Will Star in New HBO Show That Sounds VERY Similar to 13RW

Zendaya has been keeping busy for the past few years with big-screen roles in The Greatest Showman and Spiderman: Homecoming, but thanks to HBO she’ll soon make her return to TV — and this ain’t no Disney show.

The network confirmed that the 21-year-old actress has joined the cast of the upcoming drama, Euphoria. The series is based off an Israeli TV series that apparently shares quite a number of themes with 13 Reasons Why, such as relationships, identity, social media and substance abuse.

Z is set to play Rue, a 17-year-old girl who struggles with substance abuse. And while the Disney alum’s casting is enough to get us to watch, she’ll be joining an already very exciting ensemble: A Wrinkle in Time star Storm Reid has been cast as Gia, Judd Apatow‘s daughter Maude Apatow will play Lexi and Jacob Elordi, a.k.a. the super-hot breakout star of Netflix’s The Kissing Booth, is set to play Nate.

HBO has not announced a premiere date for the pilot, but fans are already hyped. One tweeted, “Euphoria is gonna bring Zendaya golden globe and emmy nominations, i speak that into existence, i’ve planted that seed and i will see the harvest,” while another shared, “HBO are legends for snatching the opportunity to let storm and zendaya play sisters.”

Just like these fans, we are SO excited to see Z in a darker, more mature role and we already know she’s gonna absolutely slay.
