Zendaya Shuts Down Trump’s Police Brutality Joke with Three Simple Words
After Donald Trump made some insensitive comments regarding police brutality, Zendaya fired back on Twitter to let it be known that this type of behavior is nothing to be joked about. Just last week, POTUS spoke to a crowd of New York Police Department officers when he talked about the amount of force officers use while arresting suspects.
“Like when you guys put somebody in the car and you’re protecting their head, you know,” he said. “The way you put their hand over, like, don’t hit their head and they’ve just killed somebody, don’t hit their head, I said, ‘You can take the hand away, okay?'” The President of the United States, ladies and gents.
Unfortunately, his comments were praised with laughter, clapping and cheering from the audience. However, following the President’s controversial remarks, many, including some police officers, accused Trump of endorsing police brutality. The whole thing caused such a stir that White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders addressed the matter by saying, “I believe he was making a joke at the time.” Violence is no joke and Zendaya made her feelings known by tweeting her two cents about the Press Secretary’s defense.
It's not funny. https://t.co/z6XkQgkV5u

This isn’t the first time Zendaya has used her platform to speak up against injustices, and it definitely will not be the last. However, the actress was not the only one who spoke out about the tasteless comment. Several others shared similar sentiments that police brutality obviously should not be joked about. Especially in today’s climate, where people are being killed by police officers on the regular with little to no any legal repercussions at all.
It’s bad enough for anyone to joke about violence and police brutality, but it’s even worse when it’s coming from the leader of the free world.
