Zac Efron Slammed for Cultural Appropriation After Getting Dreadlocks
After years of being known for his tousled, laid-back locks, Zac Efron decided to switch his hair up a bit. Did he dye it platinum blonde a la Charlie Puth? Maybe go for a full buzzcut like Nick Jonas? Nope! He decided to take a page out of many controversial celebrities’ book and get dreadlocks.
“Just for fun,” he captioned the picture, which he posted on Instagram yesterday.
The ‘do may have been fun for him, but many people are offended and calling him out for cultural appropriation.
Zac Efron in dreads.
I have really seen it all.
What in the cultural appropriation is going on?

Others, however, don’t see the problem with the hairstyle and think those who are upset are looking for a problem.
I understand there are like serious incidents of cultural appropriation happening but seriously, getting thick with Zac Efron for getting dreads is just ridiculous, in the simplest way it is JUST a hairstyle why is it so wrong for other cultures to use it if they like it?

OMG!!People are accusing Zac Efron of "cultural appropriation" Whaaaaaaat??! So a white person cant wear dreads??? Who is racist here??Imagine if a white person told a black guy/girl they are WRONG if they tried to have a white looking hairstyle!!!!I feel like I'm losing my mind!

Here’s the thing, though. While the 30-year-old can casually rock the style simply because he feels like trying something new, black people have often been criticized and degraded for wearing their hair in locks.
Cultural appropriation is “the act of taking or using things from a culture that is not your own, especially without showing that you understand or respect this culture,” so we can definitely see where people are coming from with this argument.
