Zac Efron’s Complete Career Timeline (In GIFs!)
Everybody loves Zac Efron. From the time we met him as Troy Bolton in High School Musical, the world has fallen in love with him, and 2014 is shaping up to be his best year yet.
The 26-year-old actor has two exciting projects coming out this year — That Awkward Moment and Neighbors — and has also said he's in a great place after some struggles he went through in 2013.
With all of this in mind, we thought it'd be fun to look back over Zac's near 12-year career to see just how far he's come. Check it out below!
2002: Zac had a small part on Joss Whedon's cult classic TV series, Firefly, that kicked off his acting career.
2004: In the two years after his Firefly gig, he had bit parts on shows such as E.R. and CSI: Miami, but his first big break came in the form of the show Summerland, where he played a kid named Cameron with a troubled relationship with his dad.
2005: And who could forget this little gem? We're sure you saw this pop up in $5 movie bins all over the place once High School Musical became a hit.
2006: Speaking of…Zac's launch into stardom came with the Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical where he played basketball/secret singer, Troy Bolton.
2007: It was his role in HSM that landed him the role of Link Larkin in the big screen version of the musical Hairspray, where he continued to charm the world.
After that hit theaters in July, High School Musical 2 made its big debut, and brought us the amazingness that is "Bet on It."
2008: Trying his hand at more "dramatic" material, Zac starred in Me and Orson Welles.
Though he seemed ready to move on, he made time for one more HSM movie. However, High School Musical 3: Senior Year was released in theaters, so he was already well on his way to becoming a huge movie star.
2009: Zac's first post-HSM role was the comedy 17 Again, where he took off his shirt many, many times.
2010: We saw Zac break out the waterworks in Charlie St. Cloud.
2011: Zac starred in the HUGE ensemble comedy, New Year's Eve.
2012: This was a big year for him, and he started it off with a bit part in the indie flick, Liberal Arts.
Then followed it up by voicing a character in The Lorax.
After that, he got real steamy in big screen adaption of Nicholas Sparks' novel, The Lucky One.
Zac kept the shirtless streak going in The Paperboy — his most risque role to date.
Proving all movies can't be a hit — even with Zac in them — he ended off the year on a sour note with the race car driving drama At Any Price which basically bombed at the box office.
2013: Zac spent most of this year working on upcoming projects, but the one movie of his that did come out — Parkland — didn't do so well.
2014: This year is full of great things for Zac, as he has the comedy That Akward Moment hitting theaters on January 31…
…and Neighbors coming out in May.
