YA books are a way of life for most teenagers. The story-lines and characters seem so relatable, it’s like the authors really get us. With that said, it makes TOTAL sense that some of the absolute best YA reads were actually written by authors when they were teens, just like the rest of us! (Well, you, anyway — we just like to pretend we’re still teens.)

Before it was a major motion picture starring Mae Whitman and Bella Thorne, The DUFF was but a teen's daydream. Keplinger sold her debut novel when she was only 18-years-old, followed by Shut Out and A Midsummer's Nightmare, all before she hit the 20-year-old landmark. Talk about an overachiever!
