16 Teen Movies That Were the Biggest Flops at the 2016 U.S. Box Office
There was no shortage of people going to the movies this year. Theaters were swarmed with people gunning to see great 2016 films, like Finding Dory and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, as well as not-so-great (but highly-anticipated) releases, like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.
But that doesn’t mean that every flick got the attention the studios wanted them to. Doesn’t matter if it’s an original or a sequel — both types of movies bombed at the box office, making them the biggest flops of 2016. (Still upset about Allegiant, BTW.) Here are 16 of the worst offenders:
The Divergent Series: Allegiant
BUDGET: $110 million (estimated)
DOMESTIC GROSS: $66,184,051
Here's the breakdown: The first Divergent film grossed $150,947,895 domestically against an $85 million budget; the second film, Insurgent, grossed $130,179,072 against a $110 million budget; then there was Allegiant. The third flick grossed almost less than half of what the second film did, and way less than half of the first. So you can only guess why Ascendant was scrapped for the big screen.
