First Listen: Taylor Swift Debuts “State of Grace” Off ‘Red’ Album

By  |

This is Taylor Swift‘s last Red song premiere. We know what you’re thinking: “WAH!” But no need to get emotional; that’s only because the album drops next week! It’s probably better for her too considering the public’s heard basically half the tracks — “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “Begin Again,” “Red,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and now, “State of Grace”… Yeah, that’s a lot, so we can’t complain too much that this is the last one, ya know?

So what’s this one about? Taylor says during the Good Morning America preview, “I wrote this song about when you first fall in love with someone… the possibilities, kind of thinking about the different ways that it could go. It’s a really big sound. To me, this sounds like the feeling of falling in love in an epic way.” Read on for the lyrics, then tell us what you think about “State of Grace!”

I’m walking fast through the traffic lights
Busy streets and busy lives
And all we know is touch and go
We alone with our changing minds
We fall in love till it hurts or bleeds, or fades in time

And I never saw you coming
And I’ll never be the same

You come around and the armor falls
Pierce the room like a cannon ball
Now all we know, is don’t let go
We are alone just you and me
Up in your room and our slates are clean
Just twin fire signs, four blue eyes

So you were never a saint
And I love the Sade’s are wrong
We learn to live with the pain
Mostly of broken hearts
But this love is raging and wild
