Ed Sheeran ‘I See Fire’ From ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’

Though it was speculated Ed Sheeran was going to be on the Catching Fire soundtrack, it looks like he's made his way into another blockbuster film's score! On Monday, the "Lego House" singer announced on his Twitter that he had penned a song for the upcoming film The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug titled "I See Fire." The song will play during the movie's closing credits.

Ed made the announcement in a series of tweets saying: "I very happy to announce I have written and recorded the end credits song for the new Hobbit movie 'The Desolation of Smaug'…The song is called 'I See Fire.' I got the chance to produce and play all the instruments on it apart from the cello. Managed to learn violin for a day, hope you all dig it. Big up Peter Jackson and his team for giving me the opportunity. It's also the first solo song I've released in over 2 years, it's not on the new album though, that fun starts next year."

Check out some of the song's lyrics below:

Oh, misty eye of the mountain below
Keep careful watch of my brothers’ souls
And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke
Keep watching over Durin’s son

If this is to end in fire
Then we should all burn together
Watch the flames climb high into the night
Calling out for the rope, sent by and we will
Watch the flames burn over and over
The mountain side

And if we should die tonight
Then we should all die together
Raise a glass of wine for the last time
Calling out for the rope
Prepare as we will
Watch the flames burn over and over
The mountain side

Desolation comes upon the sky

Now I see fire
Inside the mountain
I see fire
Burning the trees
And I see fire
All of we souls
And I see fire
Blood in the breeze
And I hope that you remember me
