Ariana Grande’s “Break Free” is Like Nothing She’s Ever Done Before, And We Approve

By  |

No idea what’s to come of Ariana Grande‘s acting career (what with the latest drama with Jennette McCurdy, and all the quiet on the Sam & Cat front), but you can bet that her music career is only going to continue to skyrocket — her latest song proves it!

Along with Zedd, the 21-year-old delivers a track, entitled “Break Free,” that’s nothing like what we’ve heard from her in the past. According to Zedd, the tune is “a mix of [Ariana] because she has a really special voice, and obviously you kinda of clearly hear me in the song, so I think it’s more unusual for her than it is for me ’cause I do this all the time. For her, I think it’s the first time she has made a song like that so she is really stoked about it.”

The release comes just as Ariana revived TRL for a day for Total ARIANA Live. Let us tell you, it was all sorts of awesome. Get your first listen of Ari’s new song, “Break Free,” above, catch all the lyrics below, plus see the cover art for her upcoming album, My Everything, scheduled to drop August 25. WHO ELSE IS PUMPED?!

[Verse 1]
If you want it, take it
I should have said it before
Tried to hide it, fake it
I can’t pretend anymore

[Pre-Chorus]
I only want to die alive
Never by the hands of a broken heart
I don’t wanna hear you lie tonight
Now that I’ve become who I really am

[Chorus x2]
This is the part when I say I don’t want it
I’m stronger than I’ve been before
This is the part when I break free
Cause I can’t resist it no more

[Verse 2]
You were better, deeper
I was under a spell
Like a deadly fear I am, babe
On the highway to hell

[Pre-Chorus] + [Chorus x2]

[Bridge]
(Our love baby, oooh)
The thought on your body
I came alive
It was lethal
It was fatal
In my dreams it felt so right
But I woke up and pretend
Oh baby

[Chorus x2]
