Description: Women and girls are the most impoverished, most discriminated-against group on earth. Of the 1.3 billion people living in absolute poverty worldwide, 70% are women and girls. Women work two-thirds of the world's working hours, but earn only 10 percent of its income. They produce half the world's food, but own only 1% of its land. And when it comes to literacy, two-thirds of the world's 900 illiterate adults are women. CARE is committed to Millennium Development Goal #3 because empowering women and creating gender equality is the way to bring about lasting change against global poverty. Every single Millennium Development goal is directly related to women's rights. Until the world gets this right, none of the other goals can be met.
