Vanessa Hudgens Gives Performance of a Lifetime 24 Hours After Dad Dies

Everyone knows the age ol’ saying, “The show must go on.” But imagine your world flipped upside down the day before said show. Are you still expected to perform? ’cause that’s exactly what happened to Vanessa Hudgens within 24 hours of Fox’s Grease: Live, as her father passed away from cancer the night before her one-time performance.

She wrote on Twitter:

Despite what was sure to be an emotional time in her life, she said she would push through:

And the show did, in fact, go on.

In a move reminiscent of Lea Michele‘s cover of Adele‘s “Make You Feel My Love” on Glee after Cory Monteith‘s death, Vanessa delivered a teary-eyed rendition of “There Are Worse Things I Could Do,” originated by Stockard Channing in the 1978 classic movie; a rendition that would’ve made any father proud.
