Vanessa Hudgens Bashed for Instagram Pictures in Bindi & Headdress
Right now, we're in between Vanessa Hudgens' two favorite weekends of the year — Coachella. The 2014 music festival kicked off this past weekend, and of course the 25-year-old actress was there ready to get her earthy fashion on. However, in addition to her usual Bohemian style choices, she tacked on a couple extras, and there are plenty of unhappy people expressing their feelings about 'em on the Internet.
Just like Kylie Jenner and fellow Spring Breakers star Selena Gomez, Vanessa added a bindi to her 'drobe. No real reason; she just… did it.
Separately, like Harry Styles and Alessandra Ambrosio before her, she also sported a Native American headdress for fun.
While there are some who argue that she means no harm in wearing these particular pieces, others are furious with her levels of "disrespect" and "offensive" pictures, and have taken to Instagram to express their frustrations:
@lynt0n "When you wear a bindi or a Native American headdress as a fashion accessory, however innocent your intentions, you diminish its profound cultural and religious significance, and it's offensive. You don't accessorize with other people's cultures. To do so is to exercise a disrespect towards those cultures, which too often suffer marginalization and reductive stereotyping in western society. It's not done with reverence; it's done with ignorance, and Vanessa should stop."
@tickle_tha_payne "This is disrespectful toward us natives. I grew up on a reservation. This is not right. This s*** f****** pisses me off. People try to be native, but they're not."
@awwyboo @_desh "So Coachella style is a bunch of dumb white people dressing up and misusing sacred symbols of cultures they don't even know/care about? Disgusting. #culturalappropriation"
