Quickest. Turnaround. Ever. After just airing the backdoor pilot for The Originals on last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, the spin-off’s already received pick-up by its host network.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show aired to 2.2 million total viewers, pleasing The CW enough to order a full season, the first for 2013-’14.

As previously mentioned, the fresh television series will revolve around the Original family of vampires led by Klaus (Joseph Morgan). Joining him will be brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies), sister Rebekah (Claire Holt), one-time lover Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), as well as a string of newbies, including Klaus’ diabolical former protege, Marcel.

Prior to pick-up, Claire Holt was very hopeful about the potential for The Originals: “It’s a completely different dynamic. It’s a different mix, therefore it’s a different story. I think the fans are still going to be able to get what they love from The Vampire Diaries and hopefully they’ll be able to take something new too.”
