Why a Couple’s Sudden Breakup Caused a YouTuber to Quit Social Media
They say opposites attract, but Tyler Hagen and Shannon Taylor‘s differences proved to be too much to handle and the YouTube couple decided to break up.
The musical pair met just over a year ago while filming a music video for the 24-year-old’s channel and were inseparable ever since. Recently, however, Tyler decided to rededicate himself to Christianity and the duo found that they were disagreeing on important issues more and more frequently.
“No one did anything wrong. There were just a lot of things that we fundamentally did not agree on. It’s really hard — politics, religion, social issues — our values and our morals clashed,” the 19-year-old said through tears in a video telling her followers about the split.
Tyler, who many people blamed for the breakup, decided he’ll be stepping back from social media and will only be posting music videos on YouTube from now on.
“Hey guys..I decided to let you know, I will no longer be active on social media,” he wrote on Instagram. “I will still post to YouTube and that is only for you and myself. I am going through a lot in my life right now. I have decided, with the events currently going on in our country and in our world, the most important thing for me right now is building my relationship with Jesus Christ. Social Media appears to me, to be a tool to spout hatred. I want to part ways with it, and have no form of contact with it outside of posting my music and ideas to my YouTube for the fans that care about my art. In my eyes, there is no ‘fix’ for what is happening in our country. People are not going to ‘just stop’ the madness that is happening. The riots, the destruction, the racism…it is all evil and I wish to part ways from all of it, and remove myself from this system. I wish you all the best, and want to thank you for all of the support you have given me over the years. If you wish to see more from me, again, I will be on YouTube only. I will do my best to spread nothing but love and compassion in my future videos, and nothing less. We all need it.”
