Start spreading the news! The fashion world's beloved and terminally style-challenged not "it" girl, Betty Suarez, is back and she's packing her bags for the Big Apple! The award winning series returns for a diva-licious third season on ABC Thursdays this fall, shooting at its new home at Silvercup Studio East and on location in New York City.
Last season Betty was at a precipice, faced with not one but two romantic proposals: an adventure of a lifetime by the sandwich cart guy, Gio, and a marriage proposal by her on again/off again live-in love, Henry. Should she run off to Rome with Gio or marry Henry and be a stepmother to his child in Tucson? Whom will she choose?
Life at home and work have changed dramatically too. Her father, Ignacio, is now working at the Flushing Burger with a mean boss Betty only knows too well, and sister Hilda continues seeing son Justin's gym teacher, Coach Diaz who's married. Lindsay Lohan returns as Betty's old high school nemesis, Kimmie, in a five-episode story arc that puts everyone's lives into a tailspin. Things at Mode magazine are darker and moodier when the fashion world's most irresistible villainess, Wilhelmina Slater, is at the helm as the new Editor-in-Chief of Mode magazine, replacing Betty's boss, Daniel Meade, and converting his old office into a nursery for her soon to be born child by Daniel's late father, Bradford. The child is Willie's ticket to securing control of 1/3 of the Meade publishing empire, and she's keeping a watchful eye on pregnant Christina who's carrying Bradford's baby for her, since the doctors declared Willie's womb "hostile." Daniel, now demoted to editor of the testosterone heavy "Player" Magazine and overseeing a staff of overgrown frat boys with his son from France, Daniel Jr., in tow, asks Betty to take on more responsibility. But will she stay? Meanwhile the power play with Wilhelmina continues, as Daniel's sister (formerly brother), Alexis Meade, must choose between her loyalty to her mother, Claire, or to the bottom line and keeping the Meade dynasty intact. A front page whodunit at Mode grips the headlines of New York's tabloids, there's jail time for one Modie, and guess who's being promoted to Wilhelmina's first assistant?
This season expect more fashionista rivalries and romance, confidences and betrayals, grudges and alliances broken, while secrets are unraveled through the eyes and ears of Mode's best buds -- receptionist Amanda, who's still trying to find out who her real father is, and Willie's loyal assistant, Marc St. James. The "besties" are always keeping tabs on everyone's moves, often finding themselves in the middle of the drama and always fabulously dressed, of course.
With a little help from her trusting co-worker and pregnant friend, Christina, Betty must prove to her family and the catty ego-centric fashionistas who await her every misstep that she's all grown up and not the na•ve young girl from Queens anymore.
