8 Television Shows That Were Originally Supposed to Be Movies

We’ve seen books become TV shows and even movies turn into television series, but sometimes the road to the small-screen (or TBH, any screen) is not as smooth as it seems.

Most of us can probably agree that seeing a story on television can be a lot more satisfying than viewing it as a feature film. There are just so many more opportunities for the story to develop, you know? For example, look at The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones flick versus Shadowhunters on Freeform. The movie flopped massively, yet the small-screen adaptation is soaring as one of the best shows the network’s ever created.

Hindsight is 20/20, but perhaps if the execs for the TMI movie had known that it wouldn’t be quite a success, they would have axed the Lily Collins version and earned themselves a spot on this list of TV shows that were almost feature-length films.
