9 TV Characters You Said Goodbye to Because the Actor Passed Away IRL
No matter how hard you try, becoming emotionally attached to a character is simply inevitable. This is why it’s so frustrating when you’re reading a good book or watching a great movie, and a beloved character is killed off (especially if it’s one that you didn’t see coming). We’re looking at you, The Hunger Games and Harry Potter.
Obviously, character deaths occur on TV shows as well. Sometimes a character gets killed off because the show creators planned it all along, and other times a character gets the boot because the actor playing the role wants to leave series, like in the case of Teen Wolf‘s Crystal Reed (before she made her shocking, one-time return). In other cases, an actor portraying a character will pass away IRL, leading the characters to get killed off on its respective television series. These are those cases:
Finn Hudson, Glee
Cory Monteith's death caught Gleeks and his fellow Glee co-stars off guard in July 2013. After passing away due to a heroin and alcohol overdose, the show's creators were forced to think of a way to continue the show without their leading male character. Production was delayed before the show returned for its fifth season. In order to pay tribute to Cory, they decided to say goodbye to Finn Hudson without providing an explanation as to how he died.
On an episode titled "The Quarterback," members of the glee club returned to McKinley to pay their respects.
