13 TV Stars Who Realistically Portray What It’s Like to Have a Panic Attack

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, “anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.”

There are many different types of anxiety disorders, all with various symptoms and effects. Celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Britney Spears and Ellie Goulding have all spoken out about suffering from panic attacks in hopes of breaking the stigma surrounding mental health disorders. And while it’s absolutely amazing that stars talk about what goes on in their real lives, it’s even more incredible when the media portrays issues so many people deal with every single day.

As much as we have to hand it to television executives who write panic attacks into their show’s storylines, we also have to give it to the actors who portray the harsh realities of dealing with mental illness on the small screen. Some TV stars may never know what it’s like to have an IRL anxiety attack, but they do know how to make it come to life and show what happens during one with honesty and, most importantly, realism.
