All the Uncomfortable Times Katy Perry Not-So-Subtly Shaded Taylor Swift
Whether you’ve been Team Taylor Swift or Team Katy Perry, we think we could all agree that the feud (if there even is a feud) between the two pop singers needs to end — especially since it sounds like it all started because of backup dancers, like… can’t we let bygones be bygones?
In recent weeks, Katy said she’s “ready for that BS to be done,” telling James Corden, “Now, there is the law of cause and effect. You do something, there’s going to be a reaction, and trust me, Daddy, there’s going to be a reaction. It’s all about karma, right? I think personally that women together, not divided, and none of this petty bullsh*t, women together will heal the world.”
The “Bon Appetit” singer is even willing to collaborate with Taylor. When a fan asked if she would work with the 27-year-old superstar, she responded, “if she says sorry, sure!”
BUT, in her own words (in NME‘s June 9 issue), “There are three sides of every story: one, two and the truth.” And Katy’s truths are far different from Taylor’s. As of right now, there does not seem to be any signs of burying the hatchet. Until that day comes (or doesn’t), here are all the uncomfortable times Katy Perry not-so-subtly shaded Taylor Swift:
When Katy referred to Taylor as a ~mean girl~.
In September 2014, Taylor's interview with Rolling Stone was released; an interview in which T.Swift spoke about the meaning behind her single, "Bad Blood."
"For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not," she explained. "She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'"
"She did something so horrible," the blonde singer added. "I was like, 'Oh, we're just straight-up enemies.' And it wasn't even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I'm surprisingly non-confrontational — you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It's awkward, and I don't like it."
Soon after, Katy made a small remark on Twitter that many believed to be about her fellow singer, "Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing..." In other words, look out for the mean girl feigning innocence.
In the months that followed, Billboard followed up with Katy regarding that very tweet. To that, she said, "If somebody is trying to defame my character, you're going to hear about it."
