All the Times Demi Lovato Took Over After Another Music Act Dropped Out
Demi Lovato is no stranger to replacements. Due to tonsillitis, she was forced to back out of her gig at VH1’s Philly 4th of July Jam in 2013, so the network replaced her with Hunter Hayes. Perfect swap, right? Almost seamless with how similar they’re music is(, they write sarcastically). Oh, and remember when she unceremoniously dumped Adam Lambert as the opening act for her world tour, and replaced him with her BFF, Nick Jonas? Yeah, that happened.
But this isn’t about the times she was replaced or swapped friends — this is about all the times she took over a performance for another music act. Most dropped out due to health reasons, while others were seemingly kicked out. Either way, here are seven moments in which the 24-year-old “Stone Cold” singer replaced her fellow female pop star at a gig:
When Demi Lovato replaced Selena Gomez at last year's Global Citizen Festival.
Last year was tough for Selena Gomez — after suffering from the effects of lupus, the "Good for You" singer decided to take a break from the spotlight, canceling part of her Revival Tour and clearing her calendar for the remainder of 2016; a calendar that included her as one of the headlining acts for Global Citizen Festival.
*in walks Demi Lovato*"I'm excited and proud to support this cause and perform at the Global Citizen Festival," she said in a video on Twitter at the time. "Join me and Global Citizen to help promote mental health, well-being and gender equality."
