Oh, hello! And welcome – I’m so excited to be sharing my thoughts with you on the works that have influenced me in this crazy, befuddling, magnificent affair we call acting. I’m always looking for suggestions on what I-haven’t-lived-’til-I’ve-seen-or-read-or-experienced, so I hope to nab some passionate comments from you along the way! For the past two season of The Vampire Diaries, my character Jenna has been oblivious to the undead. But I am not. So for my first post, let’s talk about a little vampire flick I love, a Swedish film called Let the Right One In.

I’ve learned that as an actor, the most important part of my job is to believably tell a story. So when I see a film that pieces a story together beautifully and believably, I feel like tap dancing. It’s just so satisfying as an audience member. Hence, my love for Let the Right One In. It’s a story about a young boy who falls in love with what appears to be a young girl (though she’s really a fierce vampire, of course.) It is a story that focuses on the core of almost every vampire tale: The discovery of an impossible love between a mortal and an immortal. A bullied boy falls for the new, eccentric girl next door who encourages him to fight back. Watching their relationship unfold tugs at the heart. Though a charming love story, the film also portrays the extreme loss that lies in the path of a vampire.

And if subtitles just aren’t your thing, you can check out the American remake, Let Me In.

Until next week! xo
