Taylor Swift Holds Back Tears on Anniversary of Sexual Assault Trial Win
Exactly one year ago yesterday, Taylor Swift sat in a courtroom in Denver, Colorado, and listened as the jury unanimously decided that former radio DJ David Mueller DID, in fact, sexually assault her during a meet & greet in 2013. The 28-year-old musician ~celebrated~ the first anniversary of her win with a Reputation Stadium Tour concert in Tampa, Florida, and could barely hold back the tears as she spoke about what happened 365 days ago.

While the “Delicate” crooner issued a statement shortly after Mueller was found guilty of sexual assault and ordered to pay $1 in restitution, she has never publicly spoken out about the incident. That changed, however, when she decided to address the emotional day on stage last night.
Tay said while playing the piano, “This exact day, a year ago, I was not playing a sold-out stadium in Tampa; I was in a courtroom in Denver, Colorado. Honestly, I was there for a sexual assault case and this day, a year ago, was the day that the jury sided in my favor and said that they believed ME. I really— I’m not— I don’t wanna— I guess I just think about all the people who weren’t believed and the people who haven’t been believed and the people who are afraid to speak up because they think they won’t be believed. And I just wanted to say I’m sorry to anyone who ever wasn’t believed because I don’t know what turn my life would’ve taken if people didn’t believed me when I said that something had happened to me.
Taylor then thanked fans who have continuously supported her during the most difficult days of her life.
So I guess I just wanted to say that we have so so so much further to go and I’m so grateful for you guys for being there for me during what was a really, really horrible part of my life. So I just wanted to say that and I wanted to thank you for everything.”
Swifties continued to show their support during the show, holding up dollar bills as a symbol of the victory.
