Taylor Swift Takes the Stand During Groping Trial & It Was Emotional AF
Today marks the fourth day of the ongoing legal battle between Taylor Swift and Colorado DJ David Mueller, and she’s officially taken the stand to testify her side of the alleged groping case as she recalls the traumatic event that left her in complete shock.
Donning a floral summer dress, Taylor was called up by Mueller’s attorney Gabriel McFarland, where she was asked about her encounter with David, who groped her while taking a photo together during a meet-and-greet back in 2013, to which she began detailing the traumatic experience by saying, “It was a definite grab. A very long grab.”
When asked how long the alleged grab took place, Taylor responded by saying, “I don’t think it would be wise to estimate time in court, but I know it was long enough for me to be completely sure that it was intentional.” She was then asked further questions about the incident, including whether David grabbed her “bare” butt, to which she responded, “yes”, and went into further detail, saying, “He stayed latched onto my bare ass cheek… I felt him grab onto my ass cheek underneath my skirt,” she explained. “The first couple of milliseconds I thought it must be a mistake, so I moved to the side very quickly so that his side would be removed from my ass cheek, but it didn’t let go.”
She was then asked if she tried to get away, to which Taylor explained that it was a very shocking thing that has never happened to her before. “This was not something I had ever dealt with. I got as far away from him as I possibly could.”
Her mother Andrea Swift also took the stand yesterday, and even broke down as she recounted the details she was given by Taylor just minutes after the incident occurred. Andrea began by saying, “I knew what happened, I heard it from her, I heard it from my daughter’s mouth. He sexually assaulted her, right there, that guy,” as she pointed directly at Mueller. She then recalled Taylor coming up to her and saying, ‘Mom, a guy just grabbed my ass in the meet-and-greet’ and revealed that Taylor also told her that the man was, “with the radio station.”
She then broke down in tears as she recalled what Taylor told her about Mueller taking part in the photo op. “She couldn’t believe that after he grabbed her, that she thanked them for being there. It was just destroying her that she said that…as a parent it made me question why I taught her to be so polite in that moment,” she said.
Andrea also revealed why they didn’t report the incident to the police at that very moment, saying that she didn’t want it to “define” Taylor’s life, but that she was, “…upset to the point where I wanted to vomit and cry at the same time.” It was shortly after that Andrea admitted that they felt it was imperative to let his employers know what happened.
More details of the trial are slowly trickling in, but until then, we’re hoping for a smooth trial and a promising outcome, not just for Taylor, but for everyone who’s ever been affected by sexual assault.
Stay brave, Tay!
