You Won’t Believe How This Star Got Her Role in Jennifer Lawrence’s New Movie
The upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse movie, which exes Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult began shooting last week, is star-studded to say the least. Besides the aforementioned twosome, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne and more are set to reprise their roles in the franchise. To add on to the list of names, Olivia Munn, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Tye Sheridan will be joining in for what is said to be the final installment in the prequel series. However, despite all the previously-mentioned big-named stars, it’s Sophie Turner‘s casting that left us wanting to know all the details.
Just a few short months ago, it was announced that the 19-year-old Game of Thrones actress would be taking on the coveted role of Jean Grey, who, in the future, marries Cyclops but is also Wolverine’s love interest… then, of course, she becomes Phoenix and basically destroys everything. Like we said, it’s a HUGE deal. So, when we caught up with Sophie at press day for her new film, Barely Lethal, alongside Hailee Steinfeld, we couldn’t help but press her for more information on the Marvel flick.
She spills, “I’m really excited. It’s a franchise that I love so much. I love [director] Bryan Singer‘s work and I love every single cast member’s work in this movie, or in the previous movies. It’s like with Hailee with Pitch Perfect, stepping on that set must have been just incredible for [her] and it’s incredible for me. When you walk on and you see Cerebro and you’re like, ‘Damn, this is X-Men.’ It’s exciting.”
She also couldn’t help but gush about the cast, “They’re all amazing and really welcoming as well, considering me and Tye are kind of the newbies. It’s nice.”
As for how she snagged the part, it’s all thanks to her loyal fans on social media, “I found out through Twitter actually that they were casting and everyone was tweeting me like, ‘You should do this.’ So then I emailed my agent and was like, ‘What’s going on with this?’ and then I got callback after callback and then I got it.”
(Considering how she heard about the role, we wonder if she’s heard about the dreamcasting for The Selection… How nuts would that be??)
Stay tuned for more from Sophie, including her recent thoughts on Game of Thrones, as well as interviews with the rest of the Barely Lethal cast before the movie hits theaters tomorrow!
