4 Shocking Theories That’ll Change the Way You Look At Snow White
Every Disney movie has a longer history than you could ever imagine. Looking into the deep (and occasionally dark) depths of Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid and the like, have all proven that. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is no different. Here are four shocking theories and hidden messages that’ll change the way you look at the cartoon:
1. The Evil Queen is Tangled‘s Mother Gothel. A Tumblr user (via E! Online) spotted: “In Tangled, the dagger and the knife in the drawer that Mother Gothel opens looks very similar to the box and dagger the evil queen gives the huntsman in Snow White.”
The thread continues, “The Evil Queen in Snow White was obsessed with beauty, so much so she wanted to get rid of someone deemed fairer than her. In Tangled, Gothel is obsessed with staying young, so much so she kidnapped a princess and kept her locked away in a castle. And when Grothel returns to her old age in the end of Tangled, she looks a lot like the old hag in Snow White.” Coincidence?
2. Snow White the the Seven Dwarfs is actually about drugs. According to some theorists, the story of Snow White is a symbolic representation of the seven stages of cocaine addiction. ‘Snow White’ is a nickname for the narcotic, plus names such as Dopey, Sneezy and Grumpy line up with some of the symptoms. O… M… G!
3. The Disney movie is chauvinistic. Okay, so it’s not so much a theory as a very widely-spread, strongly-held opinion. “The message in the film is quite straight forward: the bad girls are vain creatures glued to their mirrors, whilst good girls sit in their kitchens, talk to the birds and cook dinner for their multiple Dwarfs.”
4. There are hidden gems we bet you’ve never noticed. Notice anything special about the book cover at the beginning of the movie? We didn’t at first glance either, until someone pointed out that the seven Dwarfs are actually ON the bottom!
As if that weren’t enough, look at the coffin. It actually says ‘Snow White’ on the side. Fascinating.
