Snow White and the Huntsman Beats The Hunger Games in its International Release
In the ever epic Kristen Stewart vs. Jennifer Lawrence battle of the kick-ass-girls-with-hot-love-interests, it seems that K-Stew has taken a slight lead. Not only did she take home the awards for “Best Kiss” and “Movie of the Year” last night at the MTV Movie Awards, but her new film Snow White and the Huntsman officially beat out The Hunger Games during its opening weekend overseas.
SWATH made $39.3 million internationally, just narrowly beating THG which made $38.7 million internationally on its opening weekend in March. (In case you’re wondering, Twihards, SWATH also beat out the first Twilight by over $9 million). Pulling in a total of $95.5 million worldwide, SWATH, which stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron, is officially this week’s number one movie, beating out hard-hitting blockbusters Men in Black 3 and The Avengers.
To the ladies out there who dragged their boyfriends to the movie theater this weekend because you absolutely had to see Chris Hemsworth on the big screen, kudos to you. While 53 percent of movie-goers in North America were female, a close 47 percent were male, greatly benefiting the movie’s opening success. According to Universal, the film was never targeted directly to females because of its action-packed nature. So, if your boyfriend was secretly embarrassed that he may or may not have enjoyed the film more than expected, tell him not to worry — it’s not a chick flick.
Did you see SWATH this weekend? Did you love it or were you expecting better? Did you check out the MTV Movie Awards last night? What were your highlights?
