The Bunk’d Accident That Had Skai Jackson LOL-ing On Set
If television and movies have taught us anything, it’s that summer camp can get CRAZY. So, when Disney Channel sent some of our favorite stars from Jessie off to Camp Kikiwaka for its spinoff, Bunk’d, we knew we were going to be in for quite the show!
We had the chance to chat up 13-year-old Skai Jackson, and if you missed the first half of season one, you need to tune in to Disney for the rest. Not only are the stories totally LOL worthy, but so are some of the behind-the-scenes action, too! Enter: Skai, Peyton List and a Frisbee toss. Read our chat with the Disney Channel actress to find out how one wrong move left the girls laughing all the way through filming.
We’ve been loving Bunk’d! What was it like going to set the first few days and not having all your Jessie regulars there?
“For me, I was very excited to work with my new Bunk’d cast-mates! But it was a little weird walking in the first day and seeing the new set and not having the penthouse set anymore. Also, we don’t have Kevin (Chamberlin)or Cameron (Boyce) on the show, so It was a little sad not having them anymore.”
Have you had the chance to catch up with Debby Ryan, or any of your old cast-mates that aren’t a part of the new series?
“Cameron and Kevin always come by set and say hi to us! Even though Cameron is not on the show anymore we film on the same lot, so we see each other all the time and are all still very close! Sometimes Kevin will have get-togethers with some of the crew and cast.”
How has Zuri changed since her days on Jessie?
“On Jessie, Zuri was in love with tutu’s, and she had imaginary friends. But on Bunk’d she has grown up a lot now that she is almost 13, and she matured with her fashion and attitude.”
We heard that there will definitely be a bunch of cameos throughout the show. Can you tell us any more about that?
“Yes! There have been a lot of cameos already and we have some of our character’s parents and family will be coming in! We have some other guest stars that we can’t tell you guys yet, but soon!”
When we met with Karan Brar, he told us that whenever the producers write in a gag reel, they have to do it themselves, too. What other fun things do you guys do on set?
“We always like to have a good time on set. We play basketball together, eat lunch together in someone’s dressing room or outside, take walks around the lot or ride our hoverboards!”
Has the cast or crew had any epic pranks?
“Yes, we always prank each other on set! We sneak into each other’s rooms and scare each other or we’ll take our marshmallow guns and try to shoot each other with marshmallows!”
Since it’s such an outdoor setting, lizards, lakes and other types of things are a given. Has there ever been a crazy or funny moment on set while filming?
“Yes, we do have funny moments on set! In one scene Peyton (List) and I had to play Frisbee and we weren’t very good at it. By accident she hit me with the Frisbee while I was saying my line — it didn’t hurt at all — but we busted out laughing because it was so funny!”
We love when Disney shows have crossover episodes. What’s one show that you would love to do a crossover with?
“I think it would be fun to do a crossover with Best Friends Whenever or Girl Meets World! Doing crossovers with other Disney shows are my favorite, because we get to hang out with them for a week and go to each other’s sets!”
The first season is wrapping up pretty quickly. What types of things are in store for fans?
“The first season of Bunk’d is wrapping up very soon, but you will see the Ross’ get into a lot more trouble with Gladys and go on more adventures! Definitely something you will want to see!
Do you have any other exciting news to share with your fans?
“Recently I was nominated for an NAACP award and I’m so excited! I still can’t believe that I am nominated!”
