15 of YouTube’s Biggest “OMG!” Moments in 2015
YouTube was B-I-G in 2015. Here’s the SparkNotes version: We laughed, we cried and we were seriously pissed off. We knew it was going to be an epic year from the start when teen viral sensation Alex Lee (a.k.a. Alex from Target), announced that he was joining the YouTube world AND gearing up for a tour. How’s that for 5 seconds of fame? And, who could forget when Tanya Burr and Jim Chapman tied the knot and further exemplified #YouTubeRelationshipGoals. Tears were shed, obvs. Speaking of tears, when Smosh: The Movie premiered over the summer, we laughed so hard, we cried again. And, how about that time we jumped for joy in anticipation of The Amazing Race‘s upcoming season, featuring a red-hot lineup of social media sensations. Hype!
Then, there were some not so great moments: the negative accusations against Zoe Sugg, that terrifying moment for Ricky Dillon and Trevor Moran and the YouTube prank that literally proved Sam Pepper is the biggest a**hole of all time, just to name a few.
If you haven’t already gotten our gist here, what we’re saying is, this was one big, crazy, funny, happy, amazing, horrifying year for YouTube. Check out our full list for of all the OMG moments this year or, as we like to call it, YouTube 2k15: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
Joey Graceffa Comes Out
When Joey Graceffa's music video for "Don't Wait" premiered, it had all the classic fairy tale essentials: Goblins, witches and a knight in shining armor. Yet, it's not the wanderlust setting that caused the video to go viral, but instead Joey's happily-ever-after kiss, where he revealed to his fans that he is, in fact, gay. He took to Twitter to say, "After 8 years of this topic being the most discussed thing on my YouTube channel. To FINALLY be open felt incredible." We're so happy for the 24-year-old, who also received an overwhelming amount of praise from his friends and followers.
