Fans Fear for Shawn Mendes’ Safety After Deadly Mexico Earthquake

At least 225 people are dead after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit central Mexico yesterday. The center of the quake was located about 76 miles southeast of Mexico City, where 94 of those deaths occurred. Shawn Mendes arrived in Mexico’s capital just hours before the catastrophic earthquake happened. He was set to perform a concert at the National Auditorium today.

Fans knew that the 19-year-old was in MC at the time of the quake, so they were extremely concerned for his safety after they didn’t hear from him right away.

Fortunately, the “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back” singer and his Illuminate World Tour crew were not injured in the natural disaster. He let fans know that he was okay by tweeting his condolences to everyone affected.

The teenager was allegedly spotted buying first-aid kits in a Mexico City Walmart following the earthquake.

Shawn later announced that the safest thing to do would, unfortunately, be to cancel his planned Mexico City concert.

“I promise I will be back,” he said in the message.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this catastrophe.
