Shawn Mendes is dropping all the juicy deets this week, admitting he almost starred in the hit film Love, Simon, and he’s even dropping major info about how his newest hit single, “Lost in Japan,” became a real-life thing!

First thing’s first — we’ve gotta dive into how he could’ve played the lead in Love, Simon. Shawn hit up Elvis Duran‘s show earlier this week, where he made a major reveal telling the host that, YES, he did almost audition for Nick Robinson‘s part in the movie!

“I would’ve loved to,” Shawn revealed. “Unfortunately, timing didn’t work out, but that would’ve been amazing! Especially watching last night, Nick just did an incredible job.”

So basically, we can start getting excited that, one day soon, Shawn Mendes will definitely become the next big movie star? It appears he’s already halfway there, considering just last year we found out that Shawn’s set to star in an upcoming movie musical titled Summer of Love… so we have that to look forward to.

Shawn also admitted he was having a hard time relaxing while watching the movie due to the fact that his new songs would be dropping. He even some deets about the second single “Lost in Japan,” which was released just last night.

“I had this dream that I was lost in this country and I woke up the next day and we had this cool piano part and the song was birthed,” he told Billboard.

Not only that, Shawn revealed that the two tracks he’s released recently are a great hint as to what the album will be like. He said, “I think people are gonna think on Thursday that it’s gonna be a rock album, and then on Friday, they’re gonna have no idea what’s going on and it’s awesome.”

So get excited, Mendes Army — Shawn is just getting started!
