The Not-So-Romantic First-Kiss Stories from the Shadowhunters Cast
Awkward first kisses happen all the time — the casts of Victorious, Big Time Rush and even Harry Potter know all too well — so we weren’t expecting miracles when it came to the Shadowhunters cast. And, just as we suspected, the members of the Freeform television series have had their fair share of uncomfortable makeout moments, too:
Kat McNamara — When we caught up with Kat before Shadowhunters premiered, she told us all about her first kiss. While it took place during one of the most romantic holidays of the year, it didn’t go down quite so romantic. “My first kiss was on New Year’s Eve a few years ago in New York,” she explained. “It was really fun and sweet; it was magical, but it was awkward. At the time it was the greatest thing in the world, but looking back, it’s like, ‘Oh, that was just awkward.’ *laughs*. Story of my life.”
Dom Sherwood — During a rapid-fire interview with The Wrap (“wrapidfire,” if you will), Dom called his first kiss “horrendous.” If he had to put it in better terms, he’d describe it as “clumsy, at best, is what I would put it as.” Harsh.
Alberto Rosende — Alberto opened himself up to questioning from fans in a Twitter chat. So, naturally, fans wanted to know about his first kiss. He left it with a simple, “I was 14 when I had my first kiss.” No other details. Darn!
Harry Shum, Jr. — In a reaction to virgin couples sharing their first kiss, HSJ responded, “And I thought my first kiss was bad…” We think it’s safe to say that things were a bit awk.
Want more Shadowhunters goodies? Here are six casting secrets you won’t be able to get out of your mind for a looong time:
Matthew Daddario first auditioned to play Jace
Alexandra Daddario's younger brother plays Alec Lightwood on Shadowhunters, but he was initially up for the show's lead role. "I first saw Matthew’s audition in a set of auditions for Jace," The Mortal Instruments author Cassandra Clare wrote on Tumblr. "I tagged it, 'Would be perfect Alec,' and sent to the producers. People often forget I think but in the beginning of the books Alec is a center point of stability and Izzy and Jace are both kind of spinning off. He projected a gravitas that worked for Alec for me."
Although he clearly didn't get the role of Jace, Cassie's intuition was right, because he is, in fact, the perfect Alec.
