Selena Gomez Battling Severe Mental Illness Due to Life-Threatening Disease
Although Selena Gomez tries to stay as positive as possible, her battle with Lupus is something that has finally taken its told. The 24-year-old singer was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease almost three years ago, and despite checking into rehab and undergoing chemotherapy, she has, for the most part, kept the illness under control and continued living her life in the spotlight. It’s all gotten too much, however, as Sel is now going through something that’s forcing her to slow down and take a break from the pressures of Hollywood.
“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” she said in a statement to People magazine. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges. I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off.”
The “Kill Em With Kidness” singer, who still had numerous dates left on the Revival Tour, has apparently cancelled all upcoming concerts and, according to a source, “decided to clear her calendar for the year.”
Selena concluded: “You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.”
This decision was obviously incredibly difficult for the brunette beauty to make, but she ultimately “feels relieved that she can now make more sense of why she was feeling the way she was and is optimistic about the future.”
Get better soon, Sel! We love you always!
