Selena Gomez Responds to Rumors That She’s Starring on Sabrina Spin-Off

Netflix’s upcoming Sabrina the Teenage Witch spin-off, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, is already one of the most highly anticipated small-screen series, even though it was only confirmed, like, five minutes ago. There’s been speculation that the Riverdale offshoot would be happening for quite some time now, however, which means that there has of course been casting rumors.

Dove Cameron expressed her interest about playing the iconic blonde witch, but seeing as she just landed a gig on the upcoming season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it’s not looking like that’s going to happen.

Fans also started throwing Selena Gomez‘s name into the mix, thinking that she’d make the PERFECT Sabrina, especially since she already had magical experience thanks to Wizards of Waverly Place. Unfortunately, however, theories that SelGo’s new blonde hairstyle was done specifically for TCAOS were proven untrue, as the 25-year-old confirmed that she will not be playing another teenage witch.

“I love that! That’s new information for me,” she said on BBC Breakfast when she heard about the rumors. “No, that’s a rumor. I’ve done my magic enough.”

Selena played Alex Russo on the hit Disney Channel show WoWP from 2007 to 2012, so we’d definitely say that can be classified as “enough” magic.

But just because the “Wolves” singer will not be playing Sabrina doesn’t mean we’re not still excited for the series. The network describes The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as a reimagining of the original adventures of the Sabrina the Teenage Witch. The reboot is a “dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.”
