Selena Gomez “Empowered” After Completing Another Rehab Stint
Depression and anxiety aren’t going to hold Selena Gomez back.
The 25-year-old “Wolves” singer is reportedly feeling stronger and more confident after entering and completing another rehabilitation program last month. “She felt like she needed to get away and focus on herself with no distractions,” People reports. “She came back feeling very empowered.”
The Wizards of Waverly Place alum is said to have entered a two-week treatment program at a facility in New York City. According to The Blast, said treatment was “focused on therapy, eating healthy meals cooked by an on-site chef, pilates, and meditation.”
You may notice that, around that time, Selena was spotted walking around the New York area. That’s because she was allowed to come and go as she pleased, and was also able to keep her phone, so she was able to keep in contact with her loved ones, including Justin Bieber.
“[Justin] knew about it and was supportive,” Us Weekly claims, “but the trip had nothing to do with him. It was all her decision. She feels great and is working on new music.”
As previously mentioned, this isn’t the first time SG took a break to focus on her mental health. In 2014, Selena canceled her tour and secretly checked herself into rehab, reportedly due to exhaustion and to help her cope with her lupus diagnosis. Two years later, in summer 2016, history repeated itself, as she canceled all of her projects and entered rehab once more. At the time, she reportedly needed to step away from the spotlight to “focus on maintaining [her] health and happiness” after suffering from “anxiety, panic attacks and depression” as side effects of her lupus.
Taking care of one’s mental health is extremely important, so we’re glad to hear that Selena is taking the time to take care of her own.
