Selena Gomez Almost Died Due to Complications from Kidney Transplant

Francia Raísa and went from solely being Selena Gomez‘s best friend to her literal life savor. When the 29-year-old found out the “Wolves” singer needed a kidney transplant due to her lupus, she immediately offered to get tested to be a donor. Fortunately she was a match and the girls secretly underwent surgery in July 2017 and while it was a success, the road to healing was long and daunting.

The Grown-ish actress previously admitted that she “couldn’t move for two months” and now she reveals that the 25-year-old almost died because of complications.

She tells W magazine, “Recovery was hard. I didn’t want to eat, I didn’t want to drink anything. Selena did have a complication, too. A few hours after our surgery, I woke up and had a text from her that said, ‘I’m really scared.’ My kidney was very active, and when she turned, she broke an artery. They had to take her into emergency surgery and get a vein from her leg and build a new artery to keep my kidney in place. She could have died.”

Fans previously noticed that Sel has a scar on her right inner thigh, but didn’t know how she got it. It now appears that this is the result of doctors using a vein to build the new artery.

Francia and Selena waited weeks before telling anyone about the transplant because, according to FR, “Recovery was very hard for us, and we went through a depression at the time.”

“We kind of just wanted to be normal and not have that attention on us,” she continued. “I really left it up to her. I’ve never had anything personal come out about me before. I’ve dated very famous people, and no one knows because I’m very private. I was like, ‘Did you have to be famous?'”

Luckily, both girls are healed and doing great now.
