Concerned Fans Worry Sarah Hyland’s Past Health Problems Have Resurfaced

The 2017 SAG Awards ceremony was held over the weekend, which means many TV and movie stars came out to play; the list of celebrities includes the cast of Modern Family, of course, as the troupe was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, an award the cast has won four times (though, it hasn’t won since 2014). Noticeably absent from the group was Sarah Hyland, who plays the eldest of the “kids” on the series, Haley Dunphy. But, trust us when we say, she had a good reason.

A few hours before the start of the show, the 26-year-old actress informed her Instagram followers that she would not be appearing at the celebrity-filled ceremony. “Sad to say I will not be attending the sag awards today for some health reasons,” she explained. “So I leave you all with an adorable picture from last years @sagawards.” That picture is a throwback photo of herself kissing boyfriend/fellow Vampire Academy star Dom Sherwood at the 2016 Screen Actors Guild event:

“Ps. You know my dress was gonna be turnt too,” she ended her note.

Sarah gave no further details as to what kind of “health reasons” she’s suffering from; some fans considered the flu, but others believe it’s one of Sarah’s past medical conditions coming to the surface again:

All of these notes are in reference to Sarah’s battle with kidney dysplasia. She was diagnosed with the condition when she was 9 years old, but only opened up to the public about it in 2012, when she was 21, after her father, actor Edward James Hyland, served as the organ donor.

Sarah revealed her lifelong struggle as the cover star of Seventeen in May 2012, and continued to talk about her difficult circumstances in the following months. “I try and make it so that Haley is always sitting down,” she told Good Morning America that year, saying she’s often in pain while filming Modern Family. “If you notice, she’s always sitting down a lot… or leaning and texting. When Haley walks up the stairs that’s like my workout for the week.”

“You know, if you’re sick, you still go to work,” she added. “And in between takes, you sit down, or you lay your head down or something.”

Whatever the case may be, we wish Sarah a speedy recovery.
