Ryan Murphy Reveals How They’ll Handle Finn Hudson’s Death on ‘Glee’

By  |

FOXSince the tragedy that rocked Glee last month, the public's been left to wonder the fate of Cory Monteith's beloved character, Finn Hudson. Although it's been reported that on- and off-screen love Lea Michele wanted the show's plot to "reflect the truth" of Cory's passing, it seems that Glee's creator may have different plans…

In a Deadline exclusive, Ryan Murphy reveals, "There were a lot of things that we had to decide — how are we going to deal with his death? At one point, we were going to have his character die after an accidental drug overdose — that was something we had considered. But we have decided that we’re not going to have him pass from that."

He continues, "What we're doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died. The idea being, how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we say very early on in the episode, 'This episode is about a celebration of that character's life.' That might be weird for some people, but it felt really exploitative to do it any other way."

Glee, Season 5 will premiere on September 26, with the Cory/Finn tribute on the third episode before a few weeks worth of hiatus. Feel free to express your emotions on the topic in the comments below, or on our Glee message board.
