Why a Riverdale Bombshell May Mean 13 Reason Why Season 2 is Happening

By  |

We have good news and we have bad news, so we’ll start with the latter — Ross Butler will not be reprising his role as Reggie Mantle on the next season of Riverdale. UGH!

“We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie [this season], but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn’t use him nearly as much as we would have liked,” Riverdale series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told TVLine. “[Next season], we want more Reggie on our show — he’s Archie’s rival! — and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we’re looking for a new Reggie. Those are big shoes to fill, but we’re confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course we all wish Ross the best.”

The 26-year-old was also a series regular on 13 Reasons Why, where he played Zach Dempsey on all 13 episodes. It makes sense that the Riverdale crew “couldn’t use him nearly as much” as they wanted because he was filming two shows at once, but seeing as the Netflix hit was technically supposed to be done after the first season, there shouldn’t really be a problem now, right? Are you seeing where we’re going with this?

Because Ross is clearly unable to fully commit to the upcoming season of Riverdale, people are speculating that it’s because 13RW season two is actually going to happen!!

The same source that broke the news about Ross’ departure also says that 13RW “is a lock to get a season two pickup.”

It really seems to happening, people!
