All the Riverdale, Season 2 Casting News You’ve Been Dying to Know
Only two months left, guys — two months until you get to see Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica & the rest of the Riverdale gang back on your television sets. Season 2 is tapped to premiere on Wednesday, October 8! Not bad, not bad at all.
But, given the fact that there are still roughly 60 days until the CW television series makes its return to the small screen, there’s plenty of time to give you the must-know scoop about what to expect from the new episodes; more specifically, what to expect from the cast.
You already know the casting secrets behind Season 1, but here’s everything you need to know as you head into Season 2:
Reggie Mantle's switching up.
No one was too surprised when Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa informed everyone that Ross Butler, who originated the character Reggie Mantle on the series, would not be coming back next season. "We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie, but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn't use him nearly as much as we would have liked," he said in a statement. "[Next season], we want more Reggie in our show — he's Archie's rival! — and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we're looking for a new Reggie. Those are big shoes to fill, but we're confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course we all wish Ross the best."
(One of those "other projects" the creator was referring to: 13 Reasons Why.)
Fortunately, Ross' replacement is receiving positive feedback from fans so far. His name is Charles Melton, he's 26 years old (a year younger than Ross) and is reportedly a mix of Korean, Caucasian and Cherokee.
"It means a lot to me and to the Asian American community," Ross said of Charles' casting. "I support Charles Melton all the way."
