Hart Denton Cast as Betty Cooper’s Long-Lost Brother on Riverdale, Season 2
The Cooper family will be growing on Riverdale, season two. TVLine.com reports that Hart Denton has been cast as Betty Cooper’s long-lost brother, Chic, and will be joining the cast of The CW’s hit drama “midway through the upcoming season” and will be a reoccurring guest star.
Not much is known about the blond-haired cutie that’s going to play the baby Betty’s mom gave up for adoption when she was in high school, unfortunately. According to his IMDB, Hart only acted in his first role in 2016, and only has two major projects to his name so far.
Back in May, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa wouldn’t confirm for sure if fans should expect to see Chic on season two.
“When you do things like mention a secret brother, which is so soapy, I think you have to introduce that character,” he said. “Hopefully, you can introduce them in the most dramatic, unexpected way, which is what we’re possibly going to do with this guy. […] It takes a real, die-hard Archie fan to know that Betty has a brother named Chic Cooper. So if Betty has a secret brother, it might have something to do with the Chic Cooper from the comic books. Maybe!”
But Hart isn’t the only newcomer joining the Riverdale crew for the upcoming season. Charles Melton is replacing Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle, Mark Consuelos will play Veronica Lodge’s ~mystery dad~, and Graham Phillips is coming on board as the brunette’s old classmate/ex-boyfriend from her days in New York City.
The news of Betty’s brother was a MAJOR shocker during Riverdale‘s season one finale, so we cannot wait to see how he shakes things up among our favorite crew.
Here’s more Riverdale, season 2 casting news you need to know before the show premieres on October 11:
Reggie Mantle's switching up.
No one was too surprised when Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa informed everyone that Ross Butler, who originated the character Reggie Mantle on the series, would not be coming back next season. "We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie, but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn't use him nearly as much as we would have liked," he said in a statement. "[Next season], we want more Reggie in our show — he's Archie's rival! — and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we're looking for a new Reggie. Those are big shoes to fill, but we're confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course we all wish Ross the best."
(One of those "other projects" the creator was referring to: 13 Reasons Why.)
Fortunately, Ross' replacement is receiving positive feedback from fans so far. His name is Charles Melton, he's 26 years old (a year younger than Ross) and is reportedly a mix of Korean, Caucasian and Cherokee.
"It means a lot to me and to the Asian American community," Ross said of Charles' casting. "I support Charles Melton all the way."
