Ignorant Reporter Isn’t Sorry About Her Racist Comment About Camila Cabello

By  |

It’s only been two months since Camila Cabello left Fifth Harmony, but she’s already killing the game. Like, it took wayyy longer for Justin Timberlake to make it as far as she has after he ditched *NSYNC for a career sans the boy band, so props.to.her. But, for some reason, some people felt the need to critique the 19-year-old singer so that she can ~improve~ herself in her latest endeavor.

In an E! News Snapchat segment called “The Rundown,” the network decided to essentially tackle what CC needs to do to make it in her solo career. (Don’t know why she’d need advice from a television network’s social media page, but sure.) One of the suggestions: ditch the Cabello. “Drop the last name,” host Erin Lim said. “It’s difficult to pronounce and unnecessary.”

Umm… 1. It’s pronounced cabeyo; not that complicated. 2. For an Asian-American woman to say a Latina should Anglicize (basically, make more English) her name — or even not have one — talk about offensive. Sure, some celebrities, like Bruno Mars (real name: Peter Gene Hernandez), still do it, but look at Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Naya Rivera, Lauren Jauregui… Beautiful Latinas, beautiful names.

Needless to say, the Internet was not pleased with E!‘s commentary:

From the looks of it, though, the reporter’s not even sorry:

You do whatever the f*ck you want with YOUR name and YOUR career, Camila!

Sooooo many celebrities have names that are difficult to pronounce. Let’s embrace ’em:
