Why Are The Gleeks Singing “Friday?” Ryan Murphy Explains!

By  |

They’ve covered all the classics from Madonna to the Beatles to Britney Spears and Lady Gaga, so why is the cast of Glee now singing the not-so-classic (but still totally catchy and addictive — admit it!) song by Rebecca Black? For those of you gleeks who are confused and, well, disgusted that “Friday” will be on tonight’s prom episode, hold up and hear Ryan Murphy out…

Ryan told Billboard.com

“The glee club is hired to perform songs for the prom and they were told by the principal to please do popular songs that the kids know. The show pays tribute to pop culture and, love it or hate it, that song is pop culture.”

So, love it or hate it? Do you like the gleeks’ version of Friday?! Listen to it below in case you haven’t heard it already, and tell us what you think in the comments!
