‘PLL’ Recap: Why “This is a Dark Ride” Was Better Than the Last Halloween Ep
Can we get a “WTF?!” Seriously, what went down on the Pretty Little Liars, Season 3 Halloween episode is just way beyond anything we could’ve predicted. (Though, we did get about half of it right.) The twists were better; the WTF moments were scarier… Which is why, instead of trying to figure out which of the girls had the worst night (because we think it’s safe to say that it was obviously Aria), we’re pointing out the reasons why “This is a Dark Ride” was better than last year’s Halloween ep, “The First Secret.” Follow along, then tell us whether you agree or disagree below or on our Pretty Little Liars message board!
The costumes. We just can’t stop picturing Spencer’s pale-faced, Victorian queen outfit from last year, or Aria’s witch ensemb for that matter. This time around, all of the girls looked super-chic in their classy numbers. (Except for Emily, who killed it in her leggy ‘drobe.)
The romance. We don’t even remember any canoodling in the previous All Hallow’s Eve show, so the fact that there was some Ezria lovin’ and a steamy, in-a-storage-room makeout sesh with Haleb trumps everything.
The setting. Anyone could put on a spooky party in an abandoned house, but we bet you’ve never been to one on a moving train.
The guys. Did someone turn up the heat? ’cause all the boys were absolutely smokin’. Even Toby, who we’re still heartbroken over after the big betrAyal, was fine with a capital F.
The guest star. Since there wasn’t one last year, Adam Lambert wins this round.
The plot. Unlike “The First Secret,” this episode is set in present-day Rosewood with flashbacks to the past. So that in itself is preferred. And when you tie in a kidnapping (Aria put in a box), a sketchy boyfriend (Ezra. What was up with him?), an attempted strangling (Spencer vs. some creepster before Paige rescues her. Guess she can be trusted) and more, this was more than just a great Halloween episode. This was a phenomenal show, period.
The creepiness factor. Between the masks and ghost girl (not to mention that hand that popped out of the ground!), we’re still getting chills.
The death. Once Garrett tells Spencer that he’s going to tell her everything (like how he didn’t kill Alison; Byron aka Aria’s dad might’ve!), you kinda knew this was coming. But trapping Aria with his corpse was def unexpected.
Oh yeah, and there was the whole body-bag-underneath-the-drinks thing too. One could predict that it contains Alison’s remains, but with this show, you can’t always predict everything…
