6 Popular Books That Originally Started Out as Fanfiction
Fanfiction usually gets a pretty bad rep ’cause the story isn’t coming from the mouth (or typing fingers) of the OG writer; that’s one of the many reasons so many of your favorite celebrities find fanfic to be weird AF. But a lot of people forget that good things can come out of fictional tales. We don’t discriminate: both the cure for your 11pm boredom on a Wednesday night and a book deal are both positive outcomes.
No one goes into fanfiction expecting to become a published author, but, hey, who’s complaining when it DOES happen? Certainly not these six authors, who started out simply reading & writing fanfiction and ended up publishing the whole dang thing:
Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James
It may not seem like it, what with all of the S&M storylines, but Fifty Shades began as true-blue fanfic of none other than Twilight. That's right, YA vampire fiction twisted into mommy porn.
