Who Knew? American Idol Castoff Pia Toscano Totally Gets Stage Fright, Too

By  |

What was the biggest TV upset in recent history? No, not Finchel’s breakup. We’re talking Pia Toscano‘s elimination from American Idol, people! And we know we’re not the only ones who screamed at our TV screens when Ryan Seacrest called her name. Are we right or are we right?!

And we got to chat with the eliminated (tear!) contestant about her pre-performance rituals, why she thinks a girl totally has a shot at winning, and what we can expect from her debut album. Read on!

Teen.com: Ok, tell us. Do you have any rituals before you get out there on stage and perform for millions of people?
Pia: It’s definitely a very high-pressure situation and a lot of deep breathing that goes into it before the show. I know I have to like kind of separate myself from everything, because I get the jitters before I go on stage. So I do a lot of deep breathing. I am a little shy sometimes and I do get a little bit of stage fright.

Teen.com: What was the saddest part about getting booted of Idol?
Pia: I was just upset to be leaving the contestants. I was upset that next week I wasn’t going to be able to perform again. I was just trying to stay positive and know that everything happens for a reason, but to have the support of a lot of celebrities right now, and just my fans—it’s amazing, and it’s the best feeling in the world.

Teen.com: Who are you rooting for to win?
Pia: I truly love every single one of the contestants. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. I have a special bond with every single one of them, and it’s so hard. You can’t pick one because you truly just don’t know. I’m just rooting for all of them.

Teen.com: Do you think a girl has a shot at winning?
Pia: It’s anybody’s game right now. They all have their own unique quality about them that makes them special. So I definitely—you really don’t know. I could never say for sure if a girl’s going to win or a guy’s going to win, but I know each and every one the contestants that are in it right now deserve to be there.

Teen.com: We hear you got a recording contract! What’s up next for you?
Pia: Moving forward I would definitely go in the pop genre with an R&B influence. I definitely want to have those big, power ballads, as well, and those dance hits. I’m going to go back to New York for a little while, and then I kind of want to be close to my management out here (in LA), so I think I may come out here after the American Idol tour. We’ll see what happens.

Are you upset Pia’s off the show? Are you excited for her debut album? And who are you rooting for on Idol? We wanna know in the comments!
