The 10 Most Problematic Comments Pete Davidson’s Made About Ariana Grande
October 1, 2018
Ever since the Internet was sent into a tailspin because of
and Ariana Grande ‘s seemingly Pete Davidson abrupt engagement, the good people of the Internet have been extremely divided on whether they ship the couple or not. Sure, it’s obvious that they’re obsessed with one another, but that doesn’t mean some of the comments Pete’s made about his fiancée on Instagram and in recent interviews haven’t raised some eyebrows.
In a recent interview with
Howard Stern, Pete made several comments that many fans interpreted as derogatory and objectifying. And, LBR, in the age of #MeToo and #TimesUp, that kind of stuff is SO uncool. Plus, Ari’s long identified as a feminist, which just makes Pete’s recent comments all that much more confusing. Wondering which of Pete’s recent jokes crossed the line? Take a look:

When he joked about the Manchester Arena attack.
In May of last year, a
terrorist detonated a bomb inside Machester Arena the night of Ariana's concert, leaving 23 people dead (including the bomber), and 139 more injured. Of course, this tragic incident was a traumatic one for many, especially Ariana.
Unfortunately, even before Pete began dating Ariana, he
made an awful joke about the attack, saying that it must've made her realize how famous she's become because " Britney Spears didn't have a terrorist attack at her concert." Clearly, this joke was super insensitive, and when the joke resurfaced, Ariana took to Twitter to defend Pete while also reassuring fans that she, too, didn't find it funny at all.

When he joked about telling Ariana she was "so hot" at Aretha Franklin's funeral.

ICYMI, Ariana was recently called upon to perform at
Aretha Franklin's funeral, which, of course, she did flawlessly. However, despite her incredible performance honoring the legendary soul singer, her fiancé still managed to find a way to be inappropriate.
In a recent interview with Howard Stern, Pete chatted quite a bit about the funeral, but not in the way one would typically speak about such a sad event. Instead, he said he comforted her by telling her she was "so hot" because of all the people that were looking at her. He then told Howard, "I get it. I was jerking off to her before I met her!" We get that he's a comedian, but come on... this just isn't funny, like, at all.

To make matters even worse, Pete decided to throw in a joke about
Bill Clinton and the way he was looking at Ariana at the funeral. Unfortunately, the joke wasn't an empowering one. In fact, it was super objectifying. SHOCKER!
In that same interview with Howard Stern, Pete said that he's "never been prouder" than when Bill Clinton seemed to be "eyeing" his fiancée, as if Ariana is just some object to be ogled. Again, we get that it's his job to crack jokes, but this kind of humor does nothing but set us back. Try harder, Pete.

If you thought that Pete was done talking about Aretha's funeral, think again. Remember when photos surfaced of Ariana and the bishop? The ones in which he was
accused of groping the "God is a Woman" singer? Well, in that same interview with Howard Stern, Pete defended the pastor and, of course, fans of the singer were NOT having it.
Pete said, "It's not cool and I feel really bad. We both don't think that was intentional. He's a really tall guy, she's very little. He was trying to be funny. He did a stupid joke, he's a pastor... I feel bad for that guy." Yeah... it's safe to say people were NOT happy about this one.

When he joked about thinking of his deceased father during sex.

Once he was done chatting with Howard about Aretha's funeral, Pete went on to discuss his sex life with Ariana, and things took a very strange turn when he decided to bring his late father, who died on 9/11, into the convo.
In order to last longer during sex, Pete told Howard, "I was just thinking of my Dad being burned alive. That's what I do. I just think of my dad seeing that fire coming right towards me." If you've heard Pete's stand-up before, you know that he often jokes about 9/11, which seems to be a coping mechanism for the comic. However, we think that this time he
definitely took it a little too far. Yikes!

When he left a confusing AF comment on Ariana's Instagram.
posted this adorable photo of her and her late grandfather on Instagram, fans thought it was the sweetest thing ever. And, TBH, it totally was! However, they were met with confusion when they came across a comment Pete left on the photo, which many fans felt was extremely disrespectful.
Pete wrote in the comments, "omg what a cutie." Unfortunately, to many fans, it seemed like he was talking about Ari. However, he hit back in the comments claiming that wasn't the case at all. He clarified, saying, "Are you guys all insane? I was talking about how cute her grandpa is. what's wrong with that? you guys will really look for anything to attack people. it's sad." TBH, we think this one was just a minor miscommunication. Maybe just word it a little differently next time, Pete!

As you could probably imagine, there are several different polite ways to speak about your significant other that's both complimentary and respectful. However, when a fan asked Pete what it's like being engaged to Ari, he decided to go the raunchy and downright inappropriate route instead.
Pete responded saying, "It's like what you would think it was like but, like, 100 times sicker. It's f*cking lit. I'm a very, very lucky boy, and I'm very, very loved and I'm very lucky. And my d*ck's forever hard." Yeah... he definitely didn't have to go there.

When he joked about her getting everything she wants... including a pet pig.
If you follow Ariana on Instagram, you're probably fully aware of the fact that she and Pete recently
got a new pig named Piggy Smalls. Adorable, we know. What's not adorable, however, were the comments Pete made about Ariana and the pig on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Pete told Seth, "This girl was like, 'I want a pig,' and then an hour later it was just there. You know what I mean? Like, I'm still trying, to get, like, a Propecia refill... this chick got a pig in a f*cking hour."
For starters, Ariana is a
very hard worker, so if she wants a pig, so be it! The most cringe-worthy part of this comment, though, was probably when he referred to Ariana as "this chick." Yeah, we don't do that anymore. Period.

When he joked about wanting a prenup and replacing Ariana's birth control pills.
ICYMI, Pete appeared on
SNL's "Weekend Update" on Saturday night, and obviously cracked a few jokes about his relationship with Ari. Among them was a joke about wanting a prenuptial agreement, which some people felt he shouldn't have joked about at all.
Colin Jost asked about their prenuptial arrangement, Pete said, "Well, obviously I wanted one, you know, so God forbid we split up and she takes half my sneakers." Clearly, this was meant to be a joke, but considering he'd likely gain a portion of Ari's money and property with a prenup if they were to split, the joke rubbed many people the wrong way.
Even worse, however, was when Pete made a joke about
replacing Ariana's birth control pills with Tic Tacs in order to ensure that she won't leave him. Obviously, this is problematic on SO many levels, and fans are absolutely furious.
One fan wrote, "Hey Pete Davidson, can you not make creepy and uncalled for jokes about switching your fiancée's birth control with tic tacs? Let's not normalize that disgusting manipulation." Another person referred to the joke as "tone-deaf and insensitive," and TBH, we couldn't agree more. Bad joke, Pete. Bad joke.
