Perrie Edwards Appropriated Culture Again — Except, This Time, It’s Zayn’s!
There’s no winning for Perrie Edwards. Despite her girl group, Little Mix, topping the charts with its “Shout Out to My Ex” single and the Glory Days album, the 23-year-old was recently accused of lying about Zayn Malik breaking up with her over a text message and called it quits with her bae, Luke Pasqualino. Now, she’s being slammed on the Internet for appropriating culture… again.
Courtesy of her latest Instagram picture, she’s on the receiving end of major backlash. Here’s the photo in question:
While the blonde singer looks beautiful as usual, the snapshot is under fire because of her display of a henna tattoo. Henna (or mehndi) is the application of a temporary form of skin decoration, commonly practiced in India and Pakistan (where some of Zayn’s family is from). In Indian tradition, it’s typically applied during special Hindu weddings and Hindu festivals — neither of which Perrie participates in.

The LM girl received these kinds of messages many a time, as she frequently wears everything from dreadlocks and cornrows to Native American headdresses and bindis. Maybe she’s trying to compete with Vanessa Hudgens to be Queen of Cultural Appropriation or, you know, she’s actually fascinated by other cultures. Just a thought.
Despite the outcries, Perrie Edwards rarely (if ever) deletes the alleged cultural appropriating Instagrams. She did, however, erase all traces of her ex, Zayn Malik:
