Normani Says Announcing Fifth Harmony Hiatus Was “Heartbreaking”
When you think back to what you were feeling after the Fifth Harmony girls announced they will be going on a hiatus from the group to “pursue solo endeavors,” words like ‘heartbroken,’ ‘shocked’ and ‘angry’ come to mind. There were signs that the band was going to split, of course, but nothing could really prepare us for the news.
The members of the group all have big things planned and are obviously excited for what’s to come, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t share some of the same emotions we did following the big announcement.
“[It was] very scary and heartbreaking for me personally,” Normani told ET at the Daily Front Row’s 4th Annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards on Sunday. “The first day that we even put out the announcement for the hiatus, it was the toughest day.”
She continued, “So many people saying, ‘Oh my god, what happened? What’s wrong?’ Just having that attention on something that you already know is real and the fact that now everybody else knows it’s real, it’s like, ‘Wow, this is really happening.'”
Many people wondered if a feud caused Normani, Dinah, Lauren and Ally to go their separate ways, but sources quickly shut down that speculation and confirmed that there’s “no disharmony” among the ladies and they’re still best friends.
Normani says working as a solo artist is “definitely going to be an adjustment” because she’s so used to working with three (or previously, four) other girls, but she’s “excited” to start on this new path to “discovery.”
“I’m in the studio and its really cool because I talk about things that I actually wanna talk about and things that I feel genuinely and I can finally fully be myself,” she explained. “I feel like, within the group, I’m so, so grateful for the process but I can speak for all of us, you’ve only been able to see a fraction of who we are individually.”
The best is yet to come!
