Oh, So THAT’S What Happened When Nick Jonas & His Famous Ex Broke Up

By  |

Even after Nick Jonas and his girlfriend of two years, Olivia Culpo, decided to call it quits early last summer, the pair seemed to remain friends. “I wish the best for her in the future and we had a great two years,” he told E! News shortly after the breakup. “She’s an amazing person. We had a great, beautiful few years together, but it’s been a crazy couple months and I wish the best to her for the future. Sure, the split was “tough,” but clearly the singer and the model had a mutual understanding that going their separate ways would be the best option. And while that might be true, NJ’s new song reveals that their breakup was much more eventful than you may have thought.

The 23-year-old crooner just dropped the second tune from his upcoming album Last Year Was Complicated. “Champagne Problems” is a super personal track that details the moments immediately following Nick and Olivia’s breakup conversation.

“‘Champagne Problems’ is a song about sharing a bottle of champagne with my now ex as we were breaking up to kind of close that chapter,” he said in a Reddit Ask Me Anything. “It was sad and slightly sweet at the same time. It was a range of emotions and feelings and I think this song, although it sounds like a party song, actually has some of the deepest lyrics on the record.”

And he wasn’t kidding! In addition to sharing a nice bottle of champagne that NJ seemingly saved for a time they were celebrating something, they also decided to have breakup sex. REAAAAALLLL good idea, guys. Listen to the song below, check out the lyrics and get all the details on the Nolivia split below!

How many times have we been here before?
How many pieces have to break?
So many reasons not to celebrate
But I hate to see you cry, so let’s drink before goodbye

I got a bottle I’ve been saving up
Thought that we’d drink it all night, hey
We were the opposite of breaking up
Can’t believe I’m losing you
We just opened up too soon

We got champagne problems
Only one way to solve ’em
Raising our glass cause it’s our last
With these champagne problems
Just keep on, keep on drinking
Keep on, keep on drinking
Keep on, keep on

How did our clothes end up on the floor?
Didn’t we just break each other’s hearts?
Didn’t you have one foot out the door?
Better to fall in love than lose, wish I didn’t have to choose

We got champagne problems
Only one way to solve ’em
Raising our glass cause it’s our last
With these champagne problems
Just keep on, keep on drinking
Keep on, keep on drinking
Keep on, keep on…

We got champagne problems
Oh my God, the room is spinning from the Perignon
And you’re still with me but you’re very gone
It feels so right but we both know it’s wrong
When you got, when you got, when you got….

We got champagne problems
Only one way to solve ’em
Raising our glass cause it’s our loss
With these champagne problems
Just keep on, keep on drinking
Keep on, keep on drinking
Keep on, keep on…

Champagne problems
Only one way to solve ’em
Raising our glass cause it’s our loss
With these champagne problems
Just keep on, keep on drinking
Keep on, keep on drinking
Keep on, keep on…

We got champagne problems, woo
