Shadowhunters Likely Isn’t Coming to Netflix, But There’s Still Renewal Hope
Shadowhunters fans are doing everything — literally EVERYTHING — to save their favorite show from being canceled. But although they rented a literal airplane to fly a #SaveShadowhunters banner over the Netflix office in Los Angeles, it doesn’t look like the streaming service is going to pick up the Freeform hit for season four.
A Netflix spokesperson tells Deadline, “No Netflix negotiations are taking place to extend Shadowhunters beyond the 12 new episodes planned to premiere in 2019.”
But while Netflix execs say no negotiations are happening, Shadowhunters producer Martin Moszkowicz assures fans that not all hope for a renewal is lost.
“[Producer Constantin Film is] amazed by the dedication and persistence of the incredible fandom of Shadowhunters and the #SaveShadowhunters campaign,” he says. “We are in ongoing discussions with the network and Netflix to how we can continue to bring Cassandra Claire‘s vision to television.”
Some of those discussions, he reveals, are with various broadcasters and platforms about the author’s Infernal Devices book series, which includes appearances from audiences’ favorite Shadowhunters characters.
In addition to the plane, fans have raised thousands of dollars for various charities, purchased a billboard in Times Square and tweeted the #SaveShadowhunters hashtag millions of times. They won’t go down without a fight and while this update isn’t necessarily the best news, it still means that hope is alive.
